Date: 22nd, 23rd and 24th May 2009 Time: Venue:Temasek Junior College Ziyong's Reflection We sold different kinds of food during Drama Night. There were fish balls, drink, sandwiches and Twisties. The overall sale was not up to our expectation. I think this may due to various reasons: 1st, we did not take sufficient consideration of the need of our consumers. For example, sandwiches is not a good choice when we are selling at night. It was observed that most of the audience had taken dinner before the attend the performance and sandwiches did not win their favour. During intermission, however, the sale of drink was satisfactory as most audience were thirsty. Therefore, I believe if we had better planned the commodities we would sell, we would be able to gain a higher profit with less surplus. 2nd, the duration of the event might have been too long. On Friday, the whole event lasted for 6 hours(4pm to 10pm) while on Saturday 11 hours(11am to 10pm). Most of our members were too tired to get customers to buy our food. On the other hand, the food were not as fresh as it had been. This made us less confident when customers asked the quality of our food. We lost some business due to this. Hence I would like to suggest that in future events, we shorten the duration as far as possible. This can increase our efficiency and ensure the quality of our goods. 3rd , we might have overestimated the demand of our consumers and ordered excess food. This can be seen from the sale of fish balls on Saturday. Despite the fact that we threw away quite a number of fish balls, there were still leftover. The estimation was made base on the sale on Friday.(we sold 100 sticks of fish balls on Friday.) However, it was not taken in to account that the sale of fish balls was good on Friday because part them were sold to friends of our members. Hence, the expectation was a bit too high on Saturday. Therefore, in future events, we should be more careful in making estimation and ensure that the expectation is as realistic as possible so as to minimise wastage. However, despite all these short comings, there are still merits on the event. 1st,the sale of Twistie was better than expected. Thanks to Ms Azyanti, we were able to get the Twistie at a lower price. Although the buyers didn't really care much about the price, but when we can tell them the strong point of our goods, they tend to be more attracted and most likely they would buy. 2nd , the sale of drink is quite up to expectation. Obviously mango juice is a good choice. Some buyers came to us more than once to get the drink. 3rd, our members are really hardworking, although all were tired at the end of the day, they refused to leave during the intermission as food were not yet sold out. Although the overall sale was lower than expectation, I still think that our member deserved praise. This is my reflection on the event during the drama performance. it was not very successful. I hope we can learn from our mistake and do better in the future. Limeng's Reflection The first thing that came to my mind during the sales of food during drama night was rejection. Many people came to the play full from dinner or were not attracted to the appeal of our food. Though profit was made and I learnt more about how to do hard selling. However the real lesson learnt for me was one about life. It thought me that rejection was just a phase of life, it somewhat comes as a package together with life. Life will continue to throw us these rejections but what differentiates a winner from a quitter is the attitude we choose to face these rejections. After facing rejection, we should just brush off the dirt off our shoulders and just carry on. Time waits for no one and no one wants to be left behind, the lesson learnt for me here is to always pick myself up after each fall. Fangying's Reflection On a whole, the fundraising event that we held on 22nd May for drama production - selling of fish balls, drinks and sandwiches, was rather unsuccessful. No doubt that we did manage to cover cost, we are unable to attain the profits that we expected to get. Most of the foods are sold to our friends that were still in school instead of people going for the drama production. There are several reasons: 1.Many of them had already had their dinner before coming, hence they are unwilling to buy. 2.There are quite a number of students from Secondary Schools and they claim that they have no money as they spent all their money on their cab fare here. 3.As our manpower is really limited(5 of us), we were unable to spread the message that we are doing for the cause of charity(for our trip to Yunnan). Some people thought that we were part of the drama club, hence causing the lack of sales. I feel that it is important that we should not over-estimate the number of people that will buy our food. However, even though the sales were bad, all of us who were there did not give up. We carried on to the last, till even after the drama production ended. It is hard to predict what exactly will happen on the actual day, we should be mentally prepared that things may go wrong, and when it happens, we should not give up and should think of change in out plan so as to improve the situation. |
